There is a core goodness to Hans that was badly damaged throughout his life, but only he is responsible for the way he dealt with that darkness. ![]() Though he is trying to change, and do better, and get healthy again and NOT be that same person he was in Arendelle, that does not change or excuse the fact that his cruel ambition exists at his core, and he is responsible for and guilty of his crimes against Anna and Elsa in Arendelle. I write Hans on Disney Roleplay as seeking redemption, but still heavily tempted by his own inner darkness. He is not ‘simply misunderstood.’ They were cruel and deliberate and made by choice. Prince Hans IS NOT EXCUSED from these actions. Some things took him off guard, so he had to recalculate his plan on the fly, but still, he did all of those things because he was angry, and bitter, and selfish, and ambitious, and had a chip on his shoulder. ![]() He was messed up, and made bad choices, and only HE is responsible his actions, because everything he did in Arendelle was very, very deliberate. ![]() Plenty of people had it worse than Hans, and they never hurt anyone ‘because’ of it. Note: In regards to my opinion on what went wrong with Hans’ past, and how that affected his actions in Arendelle, I use this as a mantra:
